Lodging near Charlotte, VT

• Anywhere in Vergennes Charlotte, Shelburne, or South Burlington will be a very short drive to the shop.

• Mt. Philo State Park has camping starting at $20/night.. It is a beautiful place and has 7 tent sites, and 3 lean-to sites. It is a five minute drive from the shop.

• North Beach Campground is right on the lake in Burlington and has camping (tents to RVs), starting at $37/ night.

• There is an Airbnb a few houses down the road from the shop where many students have stayed. If you say you are taking a chairmaking class they will give you a 10% discount. Here are links to the rooms:

• Camp in the field behind the shop! May - October there are tent spots available for anyone who wants to camp. We have an outhouse with a composting toilet, rain collection for washing dishes, and a spot to hang solar shower bags. We also provide drinking water, and have some extra coolers for you to use. Price is TBD but it will be low, something like $25 per night.

Seat Weaving

• Basket Maker’s Catalog sells a variety of seating materials including shaker tape, binder cane, and danish chord. They also have good online instructions and a shaker tape yardage calculator.

• Shaker Workshops has some good shaker tape colors not available from Basket Maker’s Catalog.

• Silver River Center for Chair Caning in Ashville, NC teach excellent in person and online classes on most seating materials.

• Peter Follansbee has a good video on weaving a hickory bark seat.

• HH Perkins Co. is one source for laced Danish Chord of several colors.

• Weaver Leather Supply for Veg Tanned Leather and tools. 7/8oz thickness seems to be good for seat material. Stripping service can be added to your cart.
